When Joanne and I travel, we like to go someplace new to us and stay awhile. Usually, 6-months or more gives us a real and natural perspective of the region and its people in time. Additionally, it provides opportunities that cannot be accommodated with any less time. For example, we get to know a place economically. We learn the local economics of the people and can integrate them, to a degree, if we want to.
There is time to discover local culture, for real, in the present and with regard for the past. We not only eat wonderful foreign cuisines, we also learn how to prepare them, after having done the shopping ourselves, in ‘our’ local market. Learning enough language to speak with the people, shows respect, and develops relationships. There are friendships acquired and maintained after moving on.
It’s so very different than racing through regions, as we did in Belgium, France, and all of Central America. This kind of travel is fine but lacks the experience created by long-term travel. If this sounds intriguing, plan a long-term travel adventure for yourself. It’s so much easier to incorporate within an extended period all the excitement planned on in a shorter trip, with the many benefits, and improvements made possible with time.
How, you’re asking? This is not possible for me, you’re surmising. In Getting Underway we share how we did it, and how you can too. All you require is a serious desire to make your dreams reality. From this point on, we’re here to help and encourage you. With our shared experiences, you’ll manage the momentum required to make real your passion for long-term travel.
It’s about Experience,
